Dealing with Domestic Violence

Dealing with domestic violence is more common than we think. In fact, a number of the families we have helped this past year are survivors who are trying to start a new life for themselves – and often, their children.

This week we helped a 33-year-old single mom, who recently relocated to Raleigh to escape an abusive relationship. She and her two children, ages 8 and 5, were temporarily supported by her aunt, who lives in the area. Despite the challenges of relocating, this resilient woman secured employment at a call center, earning enough to pay her monthly expenses.

The Cooper Charitable Foundation, in partnership with Oak City Cares, provided a grant for $2,990 to cover her security deposit and first month’s rent. This family now has the opportunity to live in a safe and supportive environment, rebuilding their lives and looking forward to the future.
