New Foundation Formed to Help Residents Secure Housing

The Cooper Charitable Foundation announced today that it has begun partnering with area non-profit organizations to provide housing stability grants for people in need. The grants will help people secure housing, stay in their homes or help them with expenses during challenging times.

John Cooper, president of Cooper Tacia General Contracting of Raleigh, founded the organization to assist people in need and to honor his grandmother, who lived on a fixed income, as well as his mother, who worked but didn’t always have enough money to pay all the bills.

“This was a lived experience,” says Cooper, “and now I’m fortunate that I’m in the position to help others.”

Cooper is covering all overhead related to the Foundation, including salaries and expenses, ensuring that all donations go directly to those in need. He is also launching the non-profit with a $100,000 donation to start the grant program.

The Cooper Charitable Foundation is partnering with Wake Technical Community College’s Fostering Bright Futures program, which supports students leaving foster care; Oak City Cares, a multi-service center assisting unsheltered residents; and Healing Transitions, which offers recovery services to those suffering from addiction. Grants will be awarded to these organizations to help those they serve.

The grants will assist people working but in need of help covering their total monthly expenses; children who have aged out of foster care; victims of domestic violence; people being treated for health-related issues; single moms and widows adjusting to life on their own; and those who are unsheltered or at risk of becoming homeless. Grant amounts vary depending on each individual or family’s need and will be awarded for a minimum of one month to a maximum of six months.

For more information, contact our Executive Director, Mary-Ann Baldwin, who joined the team in January. With her strong background in non-profit executive management, she has been instrumental in helping us establish the Foundation. You can also learn more or make a donation by visiting our website at
