Three women fleeing domestic violence helped by Cooper Foundation
Three women fleeing domestic violence were helped in February with the support of the Cooper Charitable Foundation and our partner, Oak City Cares.
One woman with an 8-year-old fled her home after her partner threatened to kill her and her child. She stopped working for a time because she was so physically ill from the traumatic experience. After getting back on her feet, she secured housing but needed help with the first month’s rent and security deposit.
Another mom with two young children experienced homelessness after fleeing a dangerous domestic violence situation. She ended up relying on friends for temporary shelter, moving from couch to couch as she tried to begin the healing process. She is receiving services from Oak City Cares as she transitions to a new home and a more secure and stable future. She also needed assistance with move-in fees.
A mother of two experienced violence from her children’s father. Upon moving, her abuser discovered her address through an administrative error and showed up at her residence while she was at work, creating a safety risk for her and her children. She then lived with her mother while engaging with the Oak City Cares Coordination Team, who helped her secure housing in a confidential location. We provided move-in fees to give her and her children a safe place to live.
Thanks to our donors and their generosity, we were able to help these families secure housing and set them on a new pathway in life. Safe and secure housing is key.
Please consider a donation to the Foundation, so we can prevent people from losing their homes. Together, we can all make a difference.
